Businesses will have a more engaged workforce when their employees know their families’ basic needs are taken care of. For example, family-friendly workplace practices like flexible schedules and flex-spending help businesses attract and retain a workforce that is more present, prepared and productive. A business’ practices can also directly help strengthen families. Such practices include ensuring employees are aware of community-based resources they can access in times of need. Hosting events for employees so they can learn about these resources and making a list of resources readily accessible to employees are two ways to help ensure a culture in which offering and accepting support is standard practice and results in stronger employees – and a stronger company.
